In Khelo Rugby we often talk about charcha. A charcha session is the name we give to discussion and counselling sessions we hold with the children as a part of Khelo Rugby. The sessions can be very structured, say where we are focussed on a specific learning outcome for the children or very free-wheeling where the children are encouraged to talk about themselves and what is going on in their lives.
The idea for charcha grew from the earliest days of Khelo where we realised we could have a positive impact with the children just by giving them a chance to talk and be listened to. We’ve always thought it important that the project is led by the children’s own ideas and charcha really helps to make that a reality. ‘Nothing for us without us’ is key.
